An Introduction by Dr. Holbrook, DVM: Your pet’s health and well being is very important to us. Finding conditions before they become serious problems are the building blocks of progressive medicine. Over the last several years human medicine has been using a 'proactive approach' to health care and preventative medicine. We are now using this same school of thought in veterinary medicine. During routine visits a doctor/patient foundation is established and maintained. We will set protocols for each individual to assure your pet will remain healthy for years to come. Routine and elective treatments and diagnostics such as heartworm test, fecal examinations, complete blood test to assess kidney and liver function, red and white blood cell counts, ultrasound, radiographs (x-rays), CT, MRI, Chemotherapy, urinalysis, bacterial cultures, viral testing, all types of cytology, allergy testing, and histopathology to name a few. These are diagnostic test available and will be discussed during routine visits and especially when patients are sick. All of these tests provide answers to tough questions, but the goal is to find the illness before the condition becomes serious. During each office visit we will perform a physical examination and discuss/assess each problem and utilize the aforementioned diagnostic test as needed to properly diagnose conditions. Remember that pets age rapidly compared to humans and normal aging conditions may occur that you may not be aware of. These can be diagnosed early through routine laboratory testing during your pet’s annual/semiannual examination, and as a result easily and inexpensively maintained before they become serious.
